I imagine it will give the sweetness of the papaya, and the firmness should not matter after an hour of boiling. I have cooked pork trotter soup with just raw peanuts and napa cabbage and it tasted very nice. Instead of salt, I would put in a chicken bouillon.

She used Chinese Black vinegar, added some brown sugar and daikon instead of the papaya.
